When I was growing up, a close family member who was involved in clinical trials evaluating the safety of aspartame refused to allow her kids to drink Diet Coke (aspartame), giving them Tab (saccharin) instead. At the time, we all assumed she was nuts. She may have been right.
N.B.- During the aspartame approval process, Searle was headed by Donald H. Rumsfeld.
