Get off of my lawn!

There were annoying tourist kids on Metro tonight when I was on my way home. And it was really late for me, which means it was way too late for kids to be making tons of noise while their parents ignore how they're twirling around on the poles as if they were practicing their routines for when they eventually become strippers in their inevitably sad and pathetic adult lives.

Suddenly, I had this great idea for a t-shirt. On the front it says "I don't hate all children. . . " and on the back it says ". . . Just Yours." I think I'm going to submit it to Threadless.

Anyway, that's when the train stopped and one of the twirling children fell. And shrieked. I laughed out loud. I couldn't help it. I guess I'm an asshole.

I fondly refer to kids like that as birth control.

There are simple rules for dealing with DC tourists --

That's the one thing I really liked about Paris. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of them. And the French kids that were out and about tended to be very well-behaved. Maybe it's all that wine.

I know what you mean. And no to the last commenter, it's not just tourists. I get so annoyed at the kids but really it's the parents who shouldn't be parents. Unfortunately those are the ones having the kids. And yes, it doesn't make me exactly want to have any of my own. Although I'd like to think that mine would be extremely well behaved.

PJ: Or an explanation as to why Americans are perceived as dumb.

Mike Licht: I've been here for 8 years, I know the rules. Mostly, though, I attempt to avoid tourists and their progeny whenever possible.

Mad: Is that like when my mom gave me cough syrup before we had a babysitter?

Ryane: They were clearly tourists. But I don't care who they were; they shouldn't let their kids twirl on the Metro poles.

DSL: I like to think that my kids will be well-behaved too. I mean, I was a pretty good kid. But then again, I had pretty good parents -- although, as described above, they did occasionally resort to the old cough syrup trick.

I am glad that I am working from home today, because that post induced some not quite work appropriate howls of laughter.
