What to pack?

I was at work until well after midnight last night, and came home to no internet. Which, in retrospect, was probably a good thing, since I really needed sleep. But what I also need to do is pack for my upcoming vacation, which starts Saturday. (And get a haircut, which is a whole other matter.)

Anyway, in deciding what to pack, I have a quandary: Which dress to wear to the wedding. So I'm asking the audience. Here are your choices:

Day or evening? Time is important when planning an outfit for a wedding.

Sunday evening.

Then I would choose the first. It seems like a more evening kind of frock. I bet you have great shoes for either one, and we all know.... shoes make the dress!

I think you should hold out for DSL's opinion. Not that the wedding has anything to do with her.

Justin, this discussion is open to her input. But you should totally have a vote too.

For the record, my friend Jessica just voted for #2 because "(1) everyone has a black dress, and even though the top one is different, and I do love the blue details, it is still basically black; (2) florals are especially wonderful in the summer, and its in California right...all the better!!! and (3) its so pretty!!"

But she also told me to pack them both in case I change my mind.

Ignore Justin. I'm just giving my opinion. Both dresses are cute and would be fine, but I really like the top one. But don't keep those uncomfortable shoes. Not worth it at all. The dress would be cute with black heels.

Justin likes the top one. Maybe he feels that this is a girly discussion. I don't know. Which one are you thinking you'd like to wear?

Do you think a lot of people will wear black to an outdoor June ceremony? I have no idea.

Justin is allowed to comment on girly discussions too. The voting is open to everyone.

The reason I posted the discussion is because I've been going back and forth between the two dresses for some time. The black dress will be easier to match to things (shoes, wrap, etc.). But the floral is really cute and spring-like, and will be less affected by spending a week in a suitcase. Not to mention that it's not black, which in addition to being unusual for me, is technically more appropriate for a wedding.

I was also thinking about a royal blue dress I found in my closet (which I have never worn), but I think it will get too wrinkled.

Yeah, of course he's allowed. I don't know why else he wouldn't give his opinion.

Definitely the first dress. It looks flattering, and you can spill booze on yourself and it won't show.

Ooh, good point. Especially if I were to drink red wine.

I think the dresses are fairly equally flattering on.

My initial instinct was the second -- is it really in California? That might reinforce that.

But I also support the first -- the detail moves it away from the traditional black-dress-at-a-wedding thing.

My vote is for the second one! I love the floral pattern. Maybe you can wear the first one on a different night out?

TINGB: It is, indeed, California. And I agree that the blue embroidery makes it less little-black-dress-ish.

Anonymous: I'm not much of a dress-wearer, except to formal or semi-formal events. So if I don't wear it to the wedding, it'll probably wait for the next time I need to find a dress to wear to a wedding.

The black.

It was the only thing I could see at first and before even reading the post, I was all, that's an effin' awesome dress. So by the time I got to the second, a pretty option, my mind was already made up. Plus, the neckline is tres sexy (purr).

Funny story about the neckline on the black dress. I had to have the straps of the dress shortened -- and the neckline raised -- otherwise, as my Nana would say, just about went down to my pupik.

(Get your minds out of the gutter, non-yiddish speakers. It means bellybutton.)
