Inexcusable

Maybe this is me being hypercritical, but would it have killed the folks in my leasing office to use spellcheck?

Seriously, though -- if it was just on the one sign, it could have been dismissed as a typo, but the fact that it shows up on two different signs means that someone can't spell January. (Which is not even as hard as "February." Or "Wednesday.")

You are such a vocab hardass!

Maybe a little. ;)

No, really, I'm a spellcheck hardass. If you don't know how to spell it -- or it looks funny -- or it has a red squiggle under it -- then you should probably double-check it before submitting it to public scrutiny.

Just sayin'.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. That is hilarious...oh Dara, I agree. That would've just made me cringe...=-)

You know that I agree. I felt relief when Will Smith pointed out to the daycare worker that happyness was mispelled. I'm often tempted to go around with a big felt-tip marker. :-p

Ryane: I was fine with it being on the first sign -- but when I saw it on the second one, it really annoyed me.

Debby: Is the marker red? I mean, you ARE an editor.

From personal experience, I find red too harsh. I usually use green. :-)

OMG! This reminds me in college, our leasing office changed staff like once a month. So you never knew who was in there when you went in to pay rent (or try to avoid eviction.) Anyway, this one lady, well before I knew my rights, said we would find all our stuff on the lawn if we didn't pay by noon on the 3rd. Um, yeah, you can't do that. But at the time I didn't know, I just knew she was a major bitch.

So she sends out this note, and it was riddled with spelling errors. So I get out my red pen, correct them all, and my roommate and I get in the car and drive up to the office to tape it to the door that night. My roommate comes back laughing her ass off and said, "Um, we were not the first ones who thought of this...there were other notes taped up there."

That lady didn't last long.

Debby: When I used to edit, I used purple or green. Red is so cliché.

Scarlet: My mom doesn't really read the blog, but on the phone this evening, I told her about the post, and the joke about February and Wednesday. She cracked up. Then we started pronouncing every letter of each of those words.

Then I decided to refer to the person in my leasing office who typed this as Astro. (Well, really it was "Rastro.") At that point, we realized we were being dorks.

Velvet: There have been soooooooo many times that I've wanted to do that -- sometimes even to opposing counsel's briefs and judges opinions. I only did it once -- to a former sorority sister who came to visit me at law school and decided to drunkenly hit on the guy I was sort-of dating in front of me. The next day, when she figured out why I was annoyed, she wrote me a note apologizing. I graded the note -- and she did not pass.

And February and Wednesday are funny because...?

Some people have a serious mental block when it comes to spelling. That's okay because half my job is to be an editor.
