Plan of Attack

I am very much looking forward to the Virgin Festival. And, while calling it the highlight of my summer might be overreaching a bit -- as of right now, it's the truth.

Based on the schedule, this is my plan:

Saturday:
11:45 am: Arrive at Pimlico.
12:00 pm: Arrive at North Stage. Watch Fountains of Wayne, Cheap Trick, and some Amy Winehouse. If that sucks, head over to South Stage for some Paolo Nutini.
4:45 pm: Back to North Stage for Ben Harper, Beastie Boys and The Police.
9:50 pm: If The Police don't play an encore, rush over to South Stage to see 10 minutes of Modest Mouse, hoping that maybe they'll play an encore.
10:30 pm: Drive back to D.C.

Sunday:
12:30 pm: Arrive at Pimlico. Debate whether to go see Regina Spektor at the North Stage or Matisyahu at the South Stage. Flip a coin to make decision.
2:25 pm: North Stage, for Spoon, Panic! At the Disco, Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Maybe go to the South Stage early, to see some Wu-Tang Clan (but probably not).
7:15 pm: Make it to the South Stage for Velvet Revolver. On the way, perhaps stop by the Dance Tent for The Crystal Method.
8:30 pm: Get back to the North Stage for The Smashing Pumpkins. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, and do not waste any time with 311. Even if they do play a decent cover of The Cure's Lovesong.
10:30 pm: Drive back to D.C. Complain about how tired and sunburned I am, and how much it's going to suck to have to get up for work in the morning.

If you think a sleepy cover of "Love Song" is the best 311 has to offer, you haven't heard the right 311!

I've heard plenty of 311; they're one of my sister's favorite bands and she bought me at least one of their albums. They're not really my thing. But I do give them props for The Cure cover -- it takes cajones to reinvent a moody 80's britpop love song as a reggae number.

Evil Spock misses the Smashing Pumpkins. Sounds like a helluva time!

Oh, and 311 sucks.

I'm hoping it'll be fun. I haven't been to a festival like this in years.

I think people tend to have a visceral love or hate reaction to 311 and similar bands. And, like I said, they're not my cup of tea.

*sigh* I love the SMashing Pumpkins. OH and my brother will be at the Crystal Method tent. He gets fancy passes bc he knows someone so if you see a tall guy with dark hair that's him.

Just kidding, I do realize 40% of the people there will look like that.

Wow you actually plan all that out, down to the minute. Impressive.

They gave me the schedule, I just prioritized.

And for this you missed a Nationals series sweep?

I ended up getting to go last night and saw the Smashing Pumpkins! Yay!

Hey, long time no chat. :)

I thought I'd let you know that Queensryche is playing in Baltimore in early September (the 6th, I think). Fortunately I found a recent, music-related blog entry to which I could post that information. :)

Justin: I feel bad that I wasn't there to console you about your beloved Cardinals. Oh wait. No I don't. I got to see the Police and the Smashing Pumpkins!

Scarlet: I'm glad you got to see the Pumpkins. Their show was good, but it wasn't my favorite part -- especially since they played so much of the new stuff that the audience wasn't that familiar with. Did you get to see anything else?

RJ: Haven't heard from you in a while. I don't know if I'm going to be motivated to see Queensryche in Baltimore. (Going up to the Virgin Festival was an exception, since it was two whole days of music.) Maybe next time they come back to D.C. . . .
