Kurt Cobain

Today marks the 12th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death. I was a freshman in college at the time, and -- after a night of drinking -- I found out from this guy who was dating one of my friends. At first, I thought it was an elaborate April Fool's prank, and didn't believe him.

Leave a comment describing where you were when you found out -- if you remember.

I was driving to Dairy Queen with a friend of mine in high school. We heard on the radio that Kurt had died. We both said "holy shit" or something like that, and then sat there quietly for a second. Then my friend said "at least it wasn't Eddie Vedder," which I thought was a very dicky thing to say.

I remember the news but I don't remember much else. I must be too young.

Or not all that in to Nirvana?

I was watching MTV after school when I first heard. I didn't think it was real.
It was a pretty epic day. I remember going home and telling my mom about it, and she said she remembers where she was and what she was doing when she heard that Elvis had died.
For the record, age doesn't really matter. I was only 9 at the time.

Apparently my humor is unappreciated. And for those who don't know, yes I was well over the tender age of 9.

Because it's text, sarcasm and irony are not always communicated. (See the comment by the guy who thought I was serious about the Basque separatists.) I think there should be some textual way to indicate that a comment -- or post, for that matter -- is intended to be humorous. Maybe different color text? Or a different font?
