Things that are cool

What looks like your average vintage copy of The Cat in the Hat . . .

. . . is actually my new handbag.

Isn't it cool? I found it at Eastern Market on Saturday, courtesy of Caitlin at Rebound Designs.

Cute. I've seen purses like that, but they never have a book/mag that I like. That one is perfect!

Karoline: Caitlin has plenty others. Check out her website!

Ryane: The bags were made out of all sorts of interesting books. I had the hardest time picking just one. Ultimately, I was torn between this one and To Kill A Mockingbird for obvious (lawyery) reasons. This one won out.

Peter: You would carry a purse made out of a book. And your wife would probably think it was cool, too. I hear she has a birthday coming up soon. . . .

Sweet: According to her website (and the conversation we had), Caitlin said she would take requests.

That is so great! I love it! Actually, as I read these comments, I'd love to see the Jane Eyre one.

Debby: Didn't you get to see the bag up close and in person last night? I don't think the pictures do it justice.

But, yeah, I can totally see you with a Jane Eyre bag.

That is really neat. But how could you mutilate such a great book? You've torn me, but I think you get my BotB vote.

Kelly: According to Caitlin, she only uses books that are already falling apart, or in the case of textbooks, out of date. Plus, on her website, she said that she saves the pages -- and will donate them to charities or to artists that want to use them in collages.

When you get up close to look at my bag, you can see that this was, er, a "well-loved" book. I am sure that the pages were not in the best condition.

Peter: I think next time Anna needs an evening bag, though, this should be it.

And yeah, she'll get a lot more use out of the "I rock at BASIC" t-shirt.

Love it! If that doesn't say "happy birthday to me," I'm not sure what does! Now if only I could decide which one....

Nic: Funny, I was thinking how much you would like it.

I will warn you, however, that the bag's utility is somewhat limited. When I took mine to services this weekend, it held the cell phone, a lip gloss, my blackberry, and (barely) my keys, with my credit card and driver's license in the pocket.

And, e-mail Caitlin. Maybe you should get the To Kill A Mockingbird one, if she didn't already sell it. You know, as a lawyery thingie.

I love it! It's such an original idea. I check out this booth every time I'm at Eastern Market on the weekend.

emmmmm: Despite living in DC for 6 years, I had never been to Eastern Market until last week. Shameful. I'm so glad I got to go!
