Concert meme

HoneyKBee posted this meme, and I thought I would play along.

Here's how it works: Copy this list, leave in the bands you've seen perform live, delete the ones you haven't, and add new ones that you have seen until you reach 25. An asterisk means the previous person had it on their list. Two asterisks means the last two people who did this before you had that band on their list.

1. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers*
2. Dave Matthews Band*
3. Bob Dylan*
4. Counting Crows*
5. Bon Jovi
6. Goo Goo Dolls
7. U2
8. The Police
9. Fleetwood Mac
10. Matchbox Twenty
11. Willie Nelson
12. Queensryche
13. They Might Be Giants
14. Sister Hazel
15. Eric Clapton
16. Everclear
17. Beastie Boys
18. Nirvana
19. The Breeders
20. Cheap Trick
21. Dixie Chicks
22. Gin Blossoms
23. Sugar Ray
24. Velvet Revolver
25. Smashing Pumpkins

I'm not tagging anyone. But it's a fun exercise, so you should totally do it.

Hey cool! Thanks for playing!
I was supposed to see Fleetwood Mac on my bday 2 years ago but Stevie canceled last minute. I'm still somewhat irked at her about that.

I've seen Clapton, too. Envious that you saw Nirvana and Willie Nelson. Very telling list!

I felt bad for the bands I left off, especially the hair bands. They get no respect.

I also felt bad about neglecting to mention the time I went to go see a Christian rap band with my friend and wound up going to Denny's with them. Or the time I made it to the front of the mosh pit at the Lemonheads concert.

Just put my list together...

As it turns out, 8 of the 9 concerts we have in common I actually saw WITH you... The only exception being Smashing Pumpkins.

Although I've seen Tom Petty, Dave Matthews and TMBG multiple times (in fact, at least 3 times each, and many more for TMBG) and only once each with you.

Also, just got Police tickets today!

Oops.. Had to edit my list. I have seen the Goo Goo Dolls, purely on accident, opening for Soul Asylum in 1993, when they were a much different band than they are today. So technically I have to keep them on my list.

Justin: I was thinking that I listed a lot of shows I've seen with you. I was also thinking that maybe the meme should list the number of times we've seen each artist, like in parenthesis. Because I've seen a lot of bands a bunch of times.

I really should have looked at your list more closely the first time. I've seen the Gin Blossoms too, so I've edited mine again.

I pretty much went with the first concerts that came to mind, there are so many more I could have added. And some were more significant to me than some that I have on the list as is.

Now I have the Goo Goo Dolls and Gin Blossoms taking up two precious spots on my list. Thanks for that ;-)

Justin, it's not my fault that the Goo Goo Dolls are on your list. I've seen them at least 6 times, on purpose. In fact, in making my list, I did not include any bands that I saw by accident. Or that I was too intoxicated to remember. But yeah, it's pretty much a list of the first ones that came to mind. That's why I forgot to include one of my favorites from this summer -- Regina Spektor, who, coincidentally, is featured in today's Express.

Others missing from my list... Rusted Root, who I've seen 3 times, and always put on a good show... Ozomatli, who put on one of the best shows I've seen in the last few years... Wynton Marsalis, who I've seen twice... The Roots, who amazed me, I never thought I could enjoy a hip hop concert so much... Arrested Development, who I saw during their brief reunion a few years ago.

Hey, how'd you find where I posted the meme? I don't know if you realized, yet, that I semi-secretly write The Slender Reed.

CBK: You linked to me. That's easy to find. But I wasn't entirely sure it was you. ;)

Ooh, Lemonheads and Nirvana - nice!

I picked the best shows I could remember, but I really had to rack my brain. How can a person not be sure whether or not she's seen the Chili Peppers? I ask you!
