Is George W. Bush the worst president ever?

According to Gene Weingarten, there are three other candidates who might have been worse: James Buchanan, Warren G. Harding, and Franklin Pierce -- who, coincidentally, is W's great-great granduncle.

Maybe it runs in the family?

Anything resembling intelligence sure doesn't run in that family.

Beautiful mind, my ass.....

I think he's the worst. Rolling Stone 's article on the matter a while back made the caes pretty will. David Cross was saying Bush is the worst in his stand-up as far back as about 2002.

And he's not just Millard Fillmore bad, like not being notable. He's actively bad, not passively bad.

Perhaps the Bush family is like royalty, suffering from inbreeding. Just look at those ears.

All: I'm interpreting this as 4 votes for W and 1 for Buchanan.

Jollyroger: My dad consistently refers to W as a congenital idiot. Something about the beady, squinty eyes and the ears, and how it is likely a result of some WASP-y inbreeding.

Justin: I'm not disagreeing. I think that Weingarten's point was that, historically, some other presidents were also actively bad.

Ryane: Except for the fact that I disagree with his politics, Bush 41 wasn't so actively bad. W's complete crappiness must be a combination of his father's genes and the Pierce DNA inhereted from his mother. It's like a perfect storm of bad presidential tendencies.

Jeff, leave it to you to post Civil War History.
