South Florida Journalism

With everything going on in the world today -- including terrorism, war, mid-term elections -- do you know what is on the front page of the print edition of the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel? A story about a woman getting killed by her own dog.

I am so thankful for the Washington Post and the New York Times websites.

Not to diminish the ridiculousness, but I think a lot of local papers are like that. For example, one of the leading stories in the Cincinnati Enquirer today is about the firing of the Reds' radio announcer. Not a single thing about anything outside Ohio (well, unless you want to get technical -- the story about how the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky airport has the highest fares in the country is officially about Kentucky).

Too bad it wasn't Paris Hilton who got whacked by her dog. That would've made the front page of every newspaper in the world.

Caroline: Trust me, I'm not surprised that the story was on the front page of the print edition -- but they devoted like 75% of the page to it. That's what's weird. I'm going to have to take a picture. It's preposterous.
